What tasks are Performed by the National Office of Statistics?

The National Office of Statistics is the UK’s largest independent producer of official data, responsible for gathering and disseminating data on the economy, population, and society at municipal, state, and federal levels. They also conduct the annual census in England and Wales every ten years.

The Board of the National Office of Statistics Authority and the Office for Statistics Regulation supervise the UK statistical system.

The Government Statistical Service (GSS), the Office for National Statistics (ONS), and the National Statistical Institute are in charge of providing official statistics.

The majority of statistics are produced by statisticians working for the ONS, UK government departments, or the devolved governments of Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.
